
Mayor, Guillermo Nurse
Mayor, Guillermo Nurse, was born in the former U.S. territory of the Panama Canal Zone and raised in Pedro Miguel, a town within the Canal Zone. He is one of 12 siblings and the son of Clifford and Rebecca Nurse. Guillermo is also the proud father of six children. After serving for 22 years in the United States Navy, Guillermo retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He eventually made Oxford, North Carolina his home, where he resides with his wife, Kirsa, and has developed a deep connection with the city and its people.
For over thirty years, Guillermo has dedicated himself to securing scholarships to universities and high schools in the United States for young men and women from the Republic of Panama and Puerto Rico, helping them achieve their athletic and academic goals.
In 2022, Guillermo was appointed to the Oxford Planning Board, where he applied his extensive experience in strategic planning, infrastructure management, and contract negotiations to help guide the city through its growth challenges.
Throughout his career, Guillermo has held leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. For nearly a decade, he served as a Facility Operations Manager at various data centers across the region. He also coached professional basketball in Puerto Rico and was the general manager of the Republic of Panama's men's national basketball team during the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan.
Guillermo’s diverse experience, strong connections, and unwavering commitment to Oxford position him as a dedicated leader. As Mayor, he is focused on guiding Oxford through its unprecedented growth and change, ensuring it remains a vibrant and inclusive community for all.
